Why it's a separate job

Opening a door gets you into the cabin. Getting into a trunk is another job: it takes longer and needs different tools. That's why keys locked in the trunk are $120, plus a $19 dispatch fee, instead of the from $50 for opening the vehicle.

Say trunk in your request, not just lockout, so the right price is on the table from the start. Dispatch confirms it before a driver is sent.

Look for a way in from inside

If the cabin isn't locked, you may not need us. Look for a trunk release lever near the driver's seat or inside the glove box, or for a rear seat that folds down into the trunk. If one of those works, you're done.

Driving a hatchback or an SUV? The cargo area is usually open to the cabin, so keys left in the back may be a standard lockout rather than a trunk job. Tell dispatch what you drive, and they confirm the job and its price.

Don't pry at the trunk lid with a screwdriver or a coat hanger. You'll scratch the paint and can bend the latch, which turns a simple job into a harder one.

If the doors are locked too

Tell dispatch whether the doors are locked as well as the trunk, and whether there's any other key, so the driver comes prepared. Dispatch confirms the job and the price before a driver is sent.

Before opening anything, the driver confirms the car is yours. Bring ID, or another way to show the vehicle is yours.

If the car locked itself with the keys in the trunk, say that. It tells dispatch the doors are probably locked too, and it explains why you're standing outside a car with no way in.

What to have ready

These details cover it:

Common questions

Trunk access takes longer and needs different tools, so it's priced separately: $120 plus the $19 dispatch fee.

Not always. Opening the cabin doesn't necessarily open the trunk. Describe your car, and dispatch confirms the job and the price before a driver is sent.

Drivers use non-destructive entry methods whenever possible.

That's the standard lockout, from $50 plus the dispatch fee. Tell dispatch which one it is.
