A plug or patch is for a puncture in the tread, the flat part of the tire that meets the road. Damage in or near the sidewall can't be repaired safely, and neither can a hole beyond a certain size. In those cases the tire has to be replaced instead.
A tire that has been driven on while flat often can't be repaired anymore, even when the original hole was in the tread, because the sidewall takes the damage. That is why stopping early matters more than the size of the hole.
Plug or patch, in plain terms
A plug fills the hole. A patch covers it on the inside of the tire. You don't have to choose between them: your driver looks at the damage before starting and tells you what's possible.
When the driver arrives, the first step is to find the puncture and check it. If it can be repaired, that's the job you asked for. If it can't, the driver tells you before anything is done, so you know whether the next step is the spare or a new tire.
Keep a repairable tire repairable
Driving on a low tire is what turns a fixable puncture into a ruined one.
- Stop driving as soon as you know the tire is losing air.
- Keep your hazard lights on if you've pulled over.
- Note where the damage is, if you can see it.
- If you have a gauge, check the pressure and tell dispatch the number.
- If a nail or screw is still in the tread, leave it there.
What it costs, and what if it can't be fixed
A repair is $54–$60, plus a $19 dispatch fee charged once per job. If the tire turns out to be beyond repair, the next steps are the spare you carry (from $75) or a new tire we supply and install (from $129). Dispatch confirms your total before a driver is sent.
A repair keeps the tire you already have on the car, which is why it's worth asking for whenever the damage allows it.

Common questions
A puncture in the tread usually can be. Anything in or near the sidewall can't. Tell dispatch where the damage is, and the driver confirms before starting.
Stuck screw removal, $70 plus the $19 dispatch fee, is for a nail or screw that is still in the tire: it takes the object out and makes the tire safe. A plug or patch repair is for a puncture in the tread when nothing is stuck in it.
Avoid it. A visibly low or flat tire shouldn't be driven any further. It damages the tire, and a repair may no longer be possible.
Your driver tells you before starting. From there it's the spare you carry, from $75, or a new tire, from $129. The dispatch fee is $19, charged once per job, and dispatch confirms your total.
