Wheel lock

Lost your wheel lock key? We take the lock off

A locking lug nut needs its own key, and the key goes missing right when you need the wheel off. We remove the wheel lock at your car so the wheel can come off. Call or send a request.

Look for the key first

Before you call, check the places it likes to hide: the glove box, the trunk well, the spare tire compartment, the door pockets and the center console.

Once the wheel is back on, look for a card or a code that came with the wheel locks. Some sets carry a code on the key or a card, and the maker or a dealer can order a replacement from it. That won't help today, but it makes the next flat easier.

A key that won't turn is a missing key

A key that has rounded off, snapped or slips in the lock nut is the same problem as a lost one. If it slips, stop turning it. Forcing it can strip the pattern further.

Don't hammer a socket onto the lock or grip it with pliers either. That rounds the nut and can scar the wheel around it.

What removal does

Without the key, the wheel can't come off at all. A flat can't be changed, even with a perfectly good spare in the trunk, until the lock is dealt with.

The locking nut itself is sacrificed in the process. That can't be avoided. Your driver works to protect the wheel and the surrounding studs.

Wheel lock removal is $70, plus the $19 dispatch fee charged once per job. It covers removing the lock so the wheel can come off. It doesn't include changing the tire.

Tell dispatch which wheel needs to come off. Locking sets usually put one lock nut on each wheel, so the wheel in question is the one that matters.

If a flat is why you need the wheel off

Mention both jobs in your request so the driver arrives ready for both. A flat tire change, putting on the spare you carry, is from $75; with no usable spare, a tire we supply and install is from $129. Dispatch gives you the total before a driver is sent. If all you need is the lock off, ask for that alone.
